Healing Well Is Mostly Simple — When You Know the Rules
Following implant surgery, most of recovery is straightforward: rest the first day, be gentle with the site, and avoid behaviors that disturb the healing clot. This page lays out exactly what we tell every patient — printable, shareable, and always covered in person too.
If anything below does not match what you are experiencing — call 808-329-1715. Two minutes on the phone is always easier than worrying. For general extraction and procedure aftercare, also see our standard post-op guidance.
- Bite on gauze as directed until bleeding is controlled (usually 1–2 hours)
- No straws, spitting, or smoking for at least 48 hours
- Soft, cool foods only for the first day or two, away from the site
- Take prescribed or recommended pain relief proactively
- Do not touch, probe, or brush the surgical site until we say it is safe
Your Implant Recovery Roadmap
What each phase of healing tends to look like
Days 1–2
Rest, ice as directed (20 minutes on, 20 off), soft foods only, and take pain relief before the numbing fully wears off.
Week 1–2
Soreness fades daily. Warm salt-water rinses can begin (as directed), and normal activities resume without contact sports.
Months 1–6
The deep healing phase — bone integrates with the implant invisibly. We check progress at scheduled visits while a provisional keeps your smile complete.
