Healing Normally Feels Boring — Anything Else Should Prompt a Call
Most post-treatment recovery is unremarkable: mild soreness that fades daily, light swelling for a couple of days, and gradual return of full function. This page walks you through what to do (and avoid) at home, what deserves a phone call, and how Tropical Smiles Dental supports your healing every step of the way.
If you had an extraction, also review our implant-specific aftercare or extraction guidance for procedure-specific details. For anything else, call 808-329-1715 — a worried moment never needs to become a worried weekend.
- Bite on gauze for the time instructed — pressure, not rinsing, stops bleeding
- Soft, cool foods the first day; no straws after extractions
- Ice packs help swelling (20 on / 20 off) for the first 24–48 hours
- Over-the-counter pain relief as directed manages most discomfort
- Resume gentle brushing, avoiding the surgical site for the first day
Your Recovery Roadmap
Day-by-day expectations after most procedures
First 24 Hours
Rest, ice as needed, soft foods only, no spitting or straws (extractions), and take pain relief preventatively, not reactively.
Days 2–5
Soreness and swelling should improve daily. Gentle warm salt-water rinses can begin after day one, unless we told you otherwise.
One to Two Weeks
Most healing is complete. Sutures come out if placed, and we confirm everything looks right at your follow-up.
